Acknowledgements
Auntie Sue and Uncle Lawrence who played an enormous part in the fundraising; mentioning the ride to everyone who would listen and for organising the incredibly successful pool party. Louise my girlfriend who from start to finish has given me endless support, listened to my various moans when I have been down, lifted my spirits when she has visited and most of all despite not being overly happy about my decision to leave the country for 6 months made every effort to encourage me to complete the challenge. All of my fantastic family and friends who have provided incredible support and encouragement over the months. I am not about to start listing you all but you know who you are and every positive message you sent just added to my enthusiasm and commitment. Every member of the, sadly in some ways, increasing “TITT” club that has taken interest in my journey and took part on their own fundraising event walking from Todmorden to Hebden Bridge and back. Three other team members Matt, Jonny and Dan who all made the effort to come out and ride. It was so much easier having someone with me to share the experience and it certainly broke up the sometimes monotonous riding. I don’t know if I would have made it to Prague in that pretty low week without Jonny and Matt to encourage me. The media who have helped promote not only my ride but also the fundraising events of the “TITT” club- Yorkshire Post, Yorkshire TV, Todmorden News, Halifax Courier, Ilkley Gazette and the Bradford Telegraph and Argos. The many people I have met along the way who have helped me and who without would have made this journey much less fun and maybe even impossible. The companies who have assisted not only with sponsorship but also promoting the cycle4cancer website- 3b Waste, JD Cycles, Gauntlet Insurance, Towneley Trail Bed and Box, Pulmann Associates Architects. Everyone that kept up my interest in writing my diary with the positive feedback I received either directly or indirectly usually through my Mum! Last but obviously not least Mum who, I think it would be fair to say found it difficult when I first left but has never once failed to stand right behind me and encourage me to complete the trip. Not only that she has worked incredibly hard on the fundraising efforts and on raising awareness of the trip. She unfortunately continues to have a number of scares that scans reveal to be non-cancerous but on the other hand is continuing to live her life as normally as possible. Steve continues to be the fantastic person he always has in helping her to do this.
News Update 21st September 2006
With only 1 week to go until my expected finish in Nicosia, Cyprus I am currently In Crete waiting for a few repairs to be completed on my bike so it will make it along with me. My finish date will hopefully be Thursday the 28th assuming everything goes to plan so I am appealing to all those out there who would like to help increase the fantastic fundraising total further to do so. Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their amazing support throughout this journey I have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends, new friends and people I have never even met.
Bring on Cyprus!
This project has been created by myself Graeme Rose with the primary aim of raising money for Cancer Research UK.
My mother Anne Reynolds was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago and has fought the disease with enormous determination and courage. Unfortunately as with many cases this immense fighting spirit isn't always enough and it is very difficult to predict what will happen to her health in the future.
I am a keen cyclist who has always had a passion for doing a long cycling tour and made the decision in the Autumn of 2005 that I was finally going to "live my dream". The trip will involve riding approximately 10,000 miles through some of the most challenging terrain a cyclist can envisage. With raging headwinds, massive mountain ranges, driving rain and scorching sunshine I have no misconceptions this is always going to be enjoyable. However it should be noted as much as I am doing this to raise money for Cancer Research UK I would also like to express the sport of cycling as accessible to all. It is not as difficult as some may think and fundamentally its a fantastic a way of keeping fit, healthy and its an amazing way of making the most of our freedom we are lucky to have.
My aim is to raise £1 per every mile ridden for Cancer Reserach UK. I will keep the website updated with distance travelled and money raised so far. I have funded the whole journey myself so if there are any companies interested in sponsorship please donate the money for Charity rather than providing products. For everyone interested in supporting the ride please go to the Just Giving website.
